ReNewing Hope Ministries, Inc. is dedicated to the restoration and relief of the poor, the distressed, the underprivileged, and those who are held captive to the devastating effects of addictive habits, such as drugs and alcohol and the life-controlling issues that go along with these self-destructing habits.
ReNewing Hope Ministries, Inc. is designed to be an environment of change for the resident. We believe that when an individual encounters God, they will experience change and this change should be evident in the individual’s lifestyle, actions and words. A close relationship with God is encouraged and God is the key factor in lives changing at ReNewing Hope Ministries. It is through the resident’s submission to God and ReNewing Hope leadership that they experience change and true freedom from their life controlling addictions and negative lifestyle.
ReNewing Hope Ministries’ goal is to equip residents with the ability to maintain life-long sobriety and a Christian standard of living. ReNewing Hope Ministries purposes to empower the resident to be an effective leader and to have a positive influence in their home, church and community.
ReNewing Hope Ministries focuses on holding the individual accountable for his/her actions by encouraging them to recognize and deal with their emotional conflicts in order to facilitate effective communication with God, themselves and others. The ReNewing Hope program allows the residents the opportunity to work one on one with staff and leadership in conjunction with a daily routine that allows the staff to monitor the residents, pinpoint detrimental behavior and offer suggestions to empower them to maintain life-long sobriety and overcome negative behaviors and attitudes. Through constructive criticism, peer interaction, individual and group therapy, bible studies, church services and social activities, residents are stimulated to change and live sober and healthy lives.
Unresolved conflicts, failures, past hurts, peer pressure and the inability to cope in a pressure driven society have greatly contributed to a person’s substance abuse and negative lifestyle choices. Individualized assessments and monitoring explores damaging behavior and factors leading to drug or alcohol abuse and provide practical tools for sobriety which highlight the resident’s potential and strengths as well as expose weaknesses and negative patterns that lead to degenerative behavior.
Each resident is assigned a comfortable space with a bed, dresser, nightstand and closet. Bathroom and shower facilities are shared between the residents and there is a central living room, dining room and kitchen that each resident has access to. This type of residential life is incorporated into the resident’s treatment to produce an effective environment that allows each individual to exhibit his personality and receive constructive criticism from staff with the aim of changing negative behaviors. The living conditions provide an ideal setting for residents to interact with each other in order to experience “real life” problems and learn how to handle situations through constructive methods. Residents are required to take responsibility for their actions and encouraged to support and confront each other in healthy and positive ways.
ReNewing Hope Ministries’ treatment program requires a minimum 10 month commitment from each resident, including a 30 day Orientation period and three 90-day phases. In most cases, a residents stay will range in the average of 12-18 months.
Orientation – This initial orientation phase lasts approximately 30 days, however it can be extended if deemed necessary by the treatment coordinator. This orientation phase gives the resident the opportunity to become acclimated to their new environment. This is a critical period of transition for each resident.
Phase 1 – After the initial orientation period, the resident reaches Phase 1, which lasts a minimum of 3 months, or longer if deemed necessary by the treatment coordinator. During this phase the resident begins to set positive goals for their treatment process and is taught and encouraged to take responsibility for their actions and face adversity head on. The resident is held accountable for negative behaviors and attitudes that are demonstrated and given tools to make the necessary adjustments and changes in her attitude and behaviors.
Phase 2 – In this minimum 3 month phase (or longer if deemed necessary by the treatment coordinator), the resident continues identifying areas that are a hazard to their sobriety and utilizes practical methods by demonstrating the objectives they are learning. The resident is given additional responsibilities in this phase and receives additional privileges. Residents in this phase should be developing and operating in personal integrity and leadership skills.
Phase 3 – This minimum 3 month phase serves a dual purpose. The first purpose is to teach and empower the resident concerning relapse prevention skills. Relapse prevention skills gives the resident the tools they will need to stay sober upon leaving ReNewing Hope Ministries and will be prepared to re-enter society and live sober and productive lives. The second purpose of this phase is to encourage the resident to get an outside job. This is a tool used to train residents to effectively re-enter the work force by providing them an opportunity to demonstrate the ability to be on time, work when scheduled and exemplify positive work behavior. Each resident is monitored by staff and is expected to fulfill their regular responsibilities they may have at the ministry house. This position offers the resident a balance so that they can learn how to effectively manage work, home and self.
ReNewing Hope has an optional second term available to residents who have successfully completed the first term and desire to continue being mentored in the healthy lifestyle learned in Term One. In this term, the resident will prove their commitment to this healthy lifestyle by applying the tools learned in term one while maintaining the accountability of the program’s oversight. The resident will be trained in the development of practical life responsibilities such as controlling finances including use of a budget, maintaining an exemplary employee status with outside job, learning the balance of being a responsible, functioning, and contributing member of society while maintaining their Christian witness.
A plan will be individually designed for the graduate to assist them in retaining and applying all that has been learned and aggressively accomplish their goal of recovery once they leave ReNewing Hope Ministries. A comprehensive plan is developed detailing what the graduate should and should not do to maintain their sobriety and positive lifestyle including becoming an active participant of a Bible believing church family and submitting to its leadership. In addition, ReNewing Hope Ministries can assist the graduate with finding an aftercare counselor, for the purpose ensuring that the graduate maintains accountability. This aftercare is designed with the graduate’s continued recovery in mind.
Since work is a vital part of the resident’s life after ReNewing Hope Ministries, they are trained to successfully re-enter the work force through vocational therapy. However, in this setting, greater emphasis is placed upon character rather than skill. Character traits such as initiative, integrity on and off the job, neatness, and responsibility are stressed. The resident learns professionalism, time management, teamwork and to have a spirit of excellence no matter how great or seemingly small the task. Residents learn to demonstrate through their behavior and attitude that they know how to cooperate with others and work within structure.
Group Therapy is held on a daily basis (Monday through Friday) and is geared towards the residents sharing amongst themselves with the facilitation of staff. Group therapy is a significant element in treating residents for two reasons: one, it shows them they are not alone in facing their problems, that there are others that might be feeling the same way they do; and two, it gives them an avenue to work with other like-minded individuals to develop solutions to problems.
Individual counseling sessions are used to encourage residents to express their personal issues and how they are feeling. Christian Counselors convey wisdom and insight to develop a healthy Christian analysis for treatment.
Family therapy is an important part of a resident’s recovery process. Because addictions and negative lifestyles affect more than just the resident themselves and the majority of the time it’s the families that they hurt the most, the family should have a role in their loved one’s treatment if they desire to. It is for this reason that family counseling sessions are incorporated whenever possible. During these sessions, families are encouraged to share their feelings and the devastating effects that their loved ones negative lifestyle and substance abuse has caused. Likewise, residents express their feelings and reasonable solutions are worked out through the aiding of the counseling staff. Families are encouraged to support their loved ones throughout their stay at ReNewing Hope Ministries and persuade them to complete the program.
